New Hot Melt Label Adhesive Solution
2023-06-14
Recently, Dow Chemical Company and Avery Dennison Company announced that they have jointly developed an innovative and sustainable new hot melt label adhesive solution, so that polyolefin film labels and PP or PE packaging can be mechanically recycled in one stream. This adhesive is the first such product in the label market and has obtained Recycleclass certification, which can be recycled in HDPE color streams (Class B).
Hot melt adhesives have excellent performance in labels (such as food) for cold storage applications, but standard Hot-melt adhesive reduce the availability of recycled PP/PE materials. Because this new olefin Hot-melt adhesive is based on the same chemical composition as PP/PE packaging, when it is combined with polyolefin surface materials, labels and packaging can be recycled together as a single material.
Therefore, it provides better recyclability than standard Hot-melt adhesive without affecting performance. The development of new adhesives is driven by the recycling design thinking of Avery Dennison Company, and benefits from the Polymer science expertise of Dow Chemical. It is based on the AFFINITY of Dow chemistry ™ GA polymer is sold under the name of CF3050 by Avery Dennison in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
